Farm Journal, Day 1933

Operation, Momma needs a new cow…

When shopping for Christmas presents on the ranch, our gifts tend to be a mix of the practical and the fun. New boots and work gloves along with new games, electronics, and other wants. This Christmas my present wasn’t wrapped and placed under the tree. Instead, I found it in the heifer pasture with Lil’ Lou and the other weaned calves.

Meet J Bar J Lilac – 330L

This beautiful, 9-month-old, red purebred Limousin heifer was born in March 2023. She is sired by B-Bar Sarratelli, the top-selling lot in the B-Bar Cattle 4th Annual Bull & Female Sale. Her dam is Excel Highjack 04H, a daughter of ROMN Cadillac Jack out of the U.S. branch of Excel Ranches.

In addition to her unique pedigree, Lilac 330L is LAAN Limousin Ranch’s first purebred. Purebred animals are selectively bred to maintain specific traits and characteristics that are consistent from one generation to the next. She will help us boost the Limousin characteristics within our herd.

It will be another year before Lilac enters our breeding program. But, when she does, she will become one of the ranch’s practical Christmas gifts – a gift that continues to give back through her future calves.
