Meet 603G – Gift
We purchased this 62 percent Lim-Flex female at the 16th Annual Great American Pie Sale, hosted by the Missouri Limousin Breeders Association, in 2021. Offered by Pinegar Limousin, 603G came to the ranch just starting out her career as a momma (a pregnant heifer).

When purchasing her, we were very new to the cattle business and weren’t totally sure what to look for when buying a heifer. But, what made 603G stand out to us was her size, color, and overall look. We later learned these desirable traits are usually referred to as being straight in her lines, flawless in her gene types (phenotype), with a balanced set of numerical values.

The Pinegar Limousin program is well-known for raising sound, functional cattle with a sound phenotype to go along with performance data to produce marketable cattle. And, for the past two years, 603G has brought us nothing but the best.
She is a smart cow who quickly became a higher-ranking female. Her docile personality, mellow attitude, and curiosity have helped keep the entire herd calm and easy to move, feed, and observe. She is also fun to be around in the field. If you stand still enough she is known to offer a friendly lick or two.

Since the birth of her and our first calf (603J – Jukebox) in 2021, she has proven to have maternal instincts that are second to none. She is also mother of this year’s fall calf (603K – Keeper). And later this fall, she will calve her third calf – a heifer we are really excited about (Read more about this paring in Farm Journal, Day 1592).
