Happy New Year!

2022 was an exciting year of growth for LAAN Limousin Ranch.
First, we launched this website. Intended to be a place where we can showcase our growing herd and document the genetics we will soon contribute to the market, it has also become a fun place to tell our stories – or maybe highlight our misadventures. With the publication of this post, we have 25 stories documented and more to come in 2023!
2022 Highlights
- I told the world that I am directionally challenged, which has become a consistent joke in town, at the children’s archery events, and in front my children’s friends. If you missed it, read the story here.
- We survived a very rainy spring and an extremely dry summer. Both mean we can’t get much done outside. Check out Farm Journal, Day 1346 for fun things we learned to do on the ranch during rainy days.
- We experienced two major setbacks this year. We lost 947J – Javelin to illness over the winter. And, instead of adding two calves in the fall we discovered that 947G was not pregnant for the fall calving season. Read more in Farm Journal, Day 1287.
- We grew the herd by adding one new bull, who we hope will either be our next herd bull or a good contender in a 2024 sale. Meet Keeper in this post.
- Another successful calving season for us and J Bar J. Tom had to pull a calf for the first time on his own. The outcome wasn’t what we expected, but we learned a lot from this calving season that will only make us stronger for the next.
- 603J – Jukebox reached maturity. We are excited to see what our first calf will bring us. He is currently out on assignment getting another herd ready for 2023 fall breeding. Read more in Farm Journal, Day 1542.
- We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of two new calves in March, also documented in Farm Journal, Day 1542. Keep your fingers crossed for two strong, study, beautiful heifers.
