Farm Journal, Day 226

Pigs broke out of their pin and were feasting on spring grass in my front yard. Took three city kids, one city woman, and a farm dog to convince them to go back into the barn!

When we first moved to our ranch, to say I was a fish out of water was an understatement! It wasn’t long after we brought livestock into the equation that I knew I needed to learn – fast!

On this day, Tom was at least 20 miles away helping with fencing on another ranch. The kids and I were headed out to Abbi’s first soccer practice. I started backing the truck out the driveway when in the corner of my rear view mirror, I saw them. Starlight and Bacon, enjoying the grass in the front yard. I immediately put the truck in park and contemplated calling Tom in a panic. Instead, I told the kids we can’t go anywhere until we get them put away.

It took us almost 30 minutes and about 27 Plan B’s to get them back to the barn. But the four of us did it! If there were merit badges for the transition into country life, we probably earned three or four.
