Farm Journal, Day 350

Editor by day, rancher by night…

For my day job, I work from home (even before COVID, I worked from home). Everyday, I sit on a billion conference calls all day long. Typically, our meetings are interrupted by bad internet connections or my colleagues’ dogs barking. But, on this day, our meeting was interrupted by Oscar the Dorky rooster and his crow.

In today’s post-COVID world, conference calls have had their fair share of interruptions. Shortly after we all moved home, our chief HR officer had her 2-year-old grandson enter the background of a video call buck naked and dancing.

But, for this particular Farm Journal entry, picture a time where the majority of the world was still working in an office and most conference calls went uninterrupted.

I had worked so hard on a presentation about my team. My boss and his boss were present. We had big wins to report and I was excited to showcase my team. I was deep into the second slide of my presentation when my boss said, “Wait. I am sorry to interrupt, but is that a rooster I am hearing in the background…?” I replied yes, it’s Oscar the Dorky rooster. He likes to sit on the front porch and call to the ladies.

I laughed. They laughed. Here is what they heard…
